On the occasion of World Book Day on April 23rd, the International College, committed to advancing cross-cultural understanding and mutual learning between civilizations, organized a classic recitation event for international students themed Understanding China in the Fragrance of Books. International students from various countries took recitation as a medium and written words as a bridge. Through expressive and impassioned readings, they experienced the profound and extensive Chinese culture, and built emotional and ideological bonds across national borders through collective recitation.

At the event, international students conveyed their emotions through voices and made friends with literature. With sincere and vivid recitations, they expressed their understanding and deep affection for Chinese culture. Dinh Thi Hue from Vietnam movingly recited Homesickness, integrating the poet’s longing for hometown and motherland with her own nostalgia for her homeland. Yana, a Russian student, delivered a fluent and articulate Chinese recitation of Spring, demonstrating her exquisite grasp of the rhythmic beauty of the Chinese language. During the interactive session, students engaged in lively discussions on the cultural connotations of classic works. From the bright moonlight described in ancient poems to the silent nourishment of spring rain, they deepened their comprehension and recognition of the artistic conception and philosophical thoughts of Chinese literature through cross-cultural dialogue.

This event serves not only as a key initiative for the International College to deepen the concept of cultural education and expand pathways for cross-cultural communication, but also as an effective practice to advance the international communication of Chinese culture and promote mutual learning and integration among civilizations. Through immersive and interactive cultural experiences, international students can gain a deeper insight into China’s cultural roots and contemporary spirit amid the integration of language and emotions. They gradually develop a well-rounded understanding and emotional recognition of China, thereby forging a solid bond of hearts for people-to-people exchanges and friendly cooperation between China and foreign countries.
