To thoroughly implement the educational philosophy of cultivating individuals through aesthetics and civilizing through culture, enrich campus aesthetic education practices, and promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries, the International College successfully held the Spring “Lens World”·“Memory of Youth”Photography Creation Workshop on April 8. The event invited volunteers from the postgraduate association of the School of Media and Communication to serve as artistic instructors. More than thirty international students from over ten countries gathered together, using lenses as their eyes and light/shadow as their brushes. Amidst the sparkling spring scenery, they collectively captured the beauty of nature and engaged in a dialogue of diverse cultures through creative work.
During the professional guidance session, the volunteers meticulously broke down the creative process, covering topics such as the use of shooting equipment, principles of compositional aesthetics, artistic expression of light and shadow, and post-production editing techniques. Their explanations were detailed, demonstrations were vivid, and they promptly answered various questions, helping students of different skill levels quickly immerse themselves in the creative atmosphere. In the subsequent practical session, the international students engaged in an immersive experience of “discovering - capturing - expressing,”transforming the knowledge they acquired into creative practice. Through unique perspectives, they showcased the harmonious blend of natural landscapes and humanistic customs. The venue was filled with the continuous sounds of camera shutters, discussions, and laughter, where artistic exchange naturally intertwined with linguistic and cultural interaction, and the beauty of springtime resonated with the vitality of youth.

“Using the lens to observe and narrate has allowed my understanding of spring to go beyond the surface, fostering a deeper emotional connection,”shared ZHAO Anji (CHALYKH ANGELINA), an international student from Russia, during the exchange. Participants expressed that this activity not only enhanced their photography skills but also inspired new creative ideas through cross-cultural interaction, allowing them to personally experience the charm of cultural exchange encapsulated in the concept of “appreciating one’s own beauty and the beauty of others, achieving harmony in diversity.”
This workshop is an important component of the International College’s branded activity series “Cultivating Individuals through Aesthetics, Civilizing through Culture.”The college will continue to innovate forms of cultural education, enrich carriers for aesthetic education practices, and, through diverse, immersive cultural experience activities, guide international students to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture through practical perception, broaden their international horizons through cultural exchange, and lay a solid foundation for cultivating global talents with aesthetic literacy and cross-cultural communication skills.
